Why you should volunteer with Hechos?

Living and working with us will provide you with valuable insights into Guatemalan culture. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with local people, explore traditional medicine, learn about native plants and animals, and savor the delicious Guatemalan cuisine.

There are abundant learning opportunities available, ranging from farming to teaching to organizing, depending on the project you choose to support with us. Engaging with travelers from around the globe allows us to gain enriching life experiences and foster meaningful exchanges of ideas. We value the opportunity to learn from each other and believe in the importance of mutual understanding and communication.

We need support in various activities on our eco farm. Daily maintenance includes landscape upkeep, animal care (feeding and watering), and harvesting fruits, vegetables, and spices from our plantations. We rely heavily on the farm for our sustenance. Additionally, we seek support for the development of our OMEGA and ALFA projects, focusing on producing and selling organic products like cheese, milk, meat, spices, and medicinal herbs.

2. Social and charity project

We consistently undertake social projects to aid the local community. For instance, annually, we gather material donations in Texas and ship wheelchairs, medical supplies, clothing, toys for children, and furniture to the Poptún community. Additionally, targeting the younger generation, much of our efforts involve collaboration with schools, orphanages, and churches. This includes providing purified water, renovating schools, organizing events, and offering afternoon Bible or English lessons.

3. Construction project

We need someone who can help us with plumbing and electrical installation. We frequently engage in various building projects for the community. Recently, we renovated the ‘living house,’ which houses our rooms and guestrooms. We aim to install showers in each room and require general electrical assistance for other projects.
